Can They?

November 5th, 2008 · 4 Comments

All night long we heard the recurring chant of “Yes, we can!!!!” The question that we will now begin to ask ourselves is “Can They?” For 8 years now, the left has spent a great deal of their time, money, and effort in attack/complaint/excuse mode. We are now at a point in history where they will have to prove to us that they can actually govern and move the country forward to the greater prosperity they believe we can acheive.

Whether they can do it or not remains to be seen. But from here on out, there are no excuses, no easy targets, no evil empires on which to focus their angst. They CANNOT blame President Bush anymore. They CANNOT conjure up ridiculous conspiracy theories anymore. They CANNOT villify Dick Cheney and Karl Rove anymore.

Barak Obama now has the power of the executive and legislative branches in his hands to enact his vision of change. The test is about to begin. Can he pass the test?

Can they?

Alas, they can! They will have an initial period to push through their top priorities. What I will be watching is exactly what those prioirities are. My guess is the Fairness Doctrine (via executive order on Day 1), union card check (payoff to unions), expanded SCHIP (back door to socialized medicine) and massive revision of No Child Left Behind (payoff to NEA). It’s gonna be ugly.

It is going to be ugly – are you keeping track of our economic situation? It will be pretty sad if those are the items of focus. We’re at a pretty scary time – we can only pray that Obama actually listens more to some of his best economic advisors and is able to reign in Reid and Pelosi and other left wing crazies. We will lurch out of this recession but the unintended consequences of the actions to date (and other potential Obama actions) are likely to reverbarate for many many years.

Anon, good point. The economy will have to be his very first priority on Day 1. I’d guess that he’ll get whatever he wants in the way of a recovery/stimulus package and not have give up a cent of his political capital for it.

Reminds me of the childrens’s show “Bob, the Builder.” On it they prattle the “tune”: “Bob the bulder, can we build it?” “Yes, we can” comes the retort. And that is what the the “Yes we can” is all about: children’s imaginations, 25 cent jingles, and wish lists.
