Today marks a special anniversary in US history. 20 years ago, one of this nation’s greatest leaders heightened the pressure on what was then the most dangerous threat of our time. On June 12, 1987, Ronald Reagan uttered the now famous words “Mr. Gorbachev, tear down this wall” while speaking at the Brandenburg Gate. There are many lessons to take from that moment in history. But most poignant is the fact that Reagan chose to stand in the face of the threat and fight. Everyone around him had advised him to take those words out of the speech. But he stuck to his principles and stood by what he believed to be the proper course of action. No doubt he made the right decision. The wall came down less than 2 years later and his words would prove the symbolic tipping point in the Cold War.
As we now face a different kind of danger that threatens to ruin our way of life, we should all look back 20 years for a source of inspiration to stand, face the threat, and carry on with the work that must be done to win the battle.

I highly recommend that you watch the video. When Reagan gets to the famous words, take note of how many Berliners and Europeans in the crowd are waving US flags. It’s sad how quickly people can forget……
