Lawrence Wright’s essay, which appeared in the New Yorker last September, is essential reading if you want to have an understanding of the scope of the Islamic jihadist; their efforts are wide and disturbing. The twenty year plan was initialized on September 11th and will be followed by six stages with the last concluding with a period of total confrontation by 2020. By then, “the…caliphate will form an Islamic Army and will instigate a worldwide fight between believers and non-believers…the world will realize the meaning of real terrorism.” It sounds like an aggrandizing testament, until you see their plans for the stages from 2001 to 2007 and realize that it reads remarkably like the front pages of the newspaper.
